I believe the drive south is one of the most beautiful drives in the country. The highway is placed between turnagain arm and a steep mountainside. It's common to see Dall sheep on the side of the mountain.

Beluga point is known for viewing the white whales as they feed on salmon.

Turnagain arm is one of the places where the 30 pus foot tide change creates a standing wave (known as a bore tide) that moves up the arm at about 10 miles an hour.

Portage Valley is at the end of the arm. The Portage Glacier sits at the end of the valley. The cold ice and warmer land usually creates a wind that is funneled through the valley. This valley is the only place I have been where waterfalls can fall up and disappear into the wind.

It's common to see moose, bear, and eagles in the valley.
